No More Time-Outs by Thomas Slater

Title: No More Time-Outs

Author: Thomas Slater

Rating: 4

Headline: Dysfunction at its Finest!

I received an advanced copy of this book and the Jones’ family is dysfunction at its absolute best. Each chapter is told from a family member’s point of view on the same set of events and Thomas Slater does an excellent job of keeping their individual stories and perspectives intact. I could understand the reasoning behind each of their actions even though I only “liked” the main character, Wisdom.

To say this family has issues would be a huge understatement. Unlike many urban fiction stories, ‘No More Time-Outs’ was quite realistic and that is why I could not put it down. Thomas Slater has one line in the book that stood out to me because I have asked it myself when certain events have happened: “And, where was God while all this was going on – on lunch break?”

This book had me hooked from the very first page and I could not put it down. I would recommend this book to others. And, I cannot wait to read the sequel to see how the family progresses (hint hint Mr. Slater)!
