Michael tried his best to lead a normal life and he attempted to turn to others for help and support but no one was ever truly there for him. He confided in a man at his church but this trusted adult was irresponsible and never sought additional help for Michael.
Moore writes a story that is so powerful and it gives a voice to so many of our young people that feel they are being overlooked. I read Deaf, Dumb, Blind & Stupid while on a flight from America to Europe and it had me so visibly shaken and emotional that the lady next to me asked to read it once I finished. Michael Anderson’s story should serve as a wake-up call to all of us that when a young person comes to us in distress that we must not only listen to them but we must take action because we can be the difference between life and death.
