Interview: Dr. A’ndrea Wilson

I have ranted and raved for almost all of 2012 about Wife 101 by A’ndrea Wilson. It was by far the best book that I read this year. And, when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Husband 101 was released a few weeks ago. Both of these books are works of fiction but can be very beneficial to both sexes, whether married or single. I am so excited that the author of Wife 101 and Husband 101, Dr. A’ndrea Wilson stopped by for a little chat!

Dr. A’ndrea J. Wilson

Thank you so much for agreeing to do this Q&A!

1. What message do you hope to convey through Wife 101 and Husband 101?
I hope to help men and women begin to perceive their relationships and marriages in a manner that is more conducive to lifetime commitments. I hope that readers will see themselves in the characters, causing them to re-evaluate their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and roles. And if nothing else, I hope that the message received is that love can still truly conquer all if we are willing to believe in God, ourselves, and each other.
                  2. Set the mood for us…when you’re writing, you have to…
Get off of Facebook! (LOL) No really, I need quiet. No music, no TV, no barking dogs outside. I need it completely quiet so that I can clearly hear the characters in my mind, telling me what to write next.
3. What is your main reason for writing: to educate, inspire, entertain, or all three?
Definitely all three. Inspiring is most important to me. I would love for readers to close the book feeling a greater sense of hope and faith. Education is second in importance. I want readers to not only feel encouraged, but have the tools to move forward and make the necessary changes in their own lives. And finally, I do want readers to be entertained. Laughing, cheering, crying, screaming, and every other reaction connected with enjoying the book is certainly welcomed.
4. What has been the most surprising and upsetting part about your literary journey?
Surprising? The reaction to Wife 101. I thought it was a good book, but I had no clue that it was going to be a life changing book for my readers. That was very surprising, but also very awesome.
Upsetting? I wish I would have given into my gift/calling much earlier in                  life. I wouldn’t have had to endure so many jobs that I loathed just to get to the one thing I will always find peace in doing.
                 5. When you’re not writing, what authors do you enjoy reading? What are you currently reading?
I have several favorite authors, but to name a few, JD Mason, Bernice McFadden, and Francine Rivers. Right now I am reading Sly, Slick, & Wicked by Angela Henry which is a part of the Kendra Clayton Mystery Series.
6. If you had to write your life story, what would the title be? How does that title portray your story?
Crazy Faith. People have always told me that they could never take some of the risks that I’ve taken or gone some of the the places I have been. They think that I have courage. I tell them I have faith. I believe in myself and when myself isn’t enough, I believe that God is all that I am not.
7. What is a normal day like for you?
I hate structure so there isn’t a “typical day” for me. Some days I take a walk in the morning to exercise and think, other days I hop on Facebook and see what I’ve missed while sleeping. I teach college courses online so I usually check on my classes daily. If it is a good day, I get some writing done, and if it is a great day, I also get to read. If it is a weekend that I have a book event (which is about 2 weekends per month), I might be traveling to my destination or connecting with the public. Outside of that, I do what everyone else does: sleep, eat, social media, pray, spend time with loved ones, etc.
8. What are three things readers might be surprised to learn about you?
 1. I am self-diagnosed ADHD. 2. I am very economical (basically, I’m cheap). 3. I don’t attend church on a regular basis (I know, I write Christian Fiction! I blame it on being a Preacher’s Kid.)
9. What can your fans look forward to next?
Couples 101 comes out in October 2013. The Wife 101 Series also has two more novels that are scheduled for release in 2014. I have a romance anthology titled Four Seasons of Love that comes out in April 2013. I also have begun writing Christian Thrillers under the pen name Janell. Right now, Janell has two short stories on ebook, Grave (Available Now) and Vanity (Available 1/1/13), and her first novel, Spell, comes out in June 2013.
10. Thank you again for allowing me to interview you on Read It All Book Reviews. Any last words for those who are reading this interview?
I feel so honored to have Wife 101 selected as your favorite read of the year. I would like to offer my gratitude for the interview and for supporting my work. For those reading this interview, I hope that you take a chance on Wife 101 and/or Husband 101. And if you do, please make sure to reach out to me and let me know your thoughts on the book. Happy Reading!

Blog Tour & Review: The Blood Done Signed My Name by M. Ann Ricks

About The Book:

Are the sins of the father and mother visited upon their sons and daughters?

Undoubtedly damaged, Honey Lamb, like many, is a descendant of an unfortunate legacy of molestation, addiction, murder and bad decisions. For as long as she could remember, she believed the unhappiness she experienced was somehow bequeathed to her. The blood that surged through her veins seemed to be tainted and she often wondered about the DNA she possessed. Experiencing more than her share of misery at the hands of her mother, an alcoholic; the source of all her woes, Honey believed she’d overcome her seemingly checkered path all by herself when she met and married, Mason; a man she loves beyond her own understanding. Unfortunately, unsettling memories emerge to crack the veneer of her seemingly happy existence. Feeling unable to escape what she believed to be her destiny, Honey makes a decision that may have ruined her life. Not realizing God places people in our lives for His purpose, she reluctantly embarks upon a journey that will open her heart to a divine inheritance. Will she accept what God has already given to her or will she shun the invitation of salvation and allow her familial carnal legacy to continue to the next generation? Will she come to understand that Jesus’ blood redeemed us from a self-defeating existence because He became the sinful inheritance for us while at the same time eradicating it forever, giving us a spiritual blood transfusion that would change us all?

My Review:

M. Ann Ricks writes an uplifting and inspirational tale in The Blood Done Signed My Name. The main character, Honey Lamb, is burdened with going through life carrying the sins of her mother. Honey Lamb had a childhood that makes you want to root for her in hopes that she will overcome all of her struggles.

The Blood Done Signed My Name is a book that will stay on your mind long after you put it down. I stopped short of giving this book 5 stars because there are a few parts of the story that are drawn out especially that the ”betrayal’ was not revealed until almost the end. Overall, this was a very good read and lesson on deliverance and how Jesus is the only one that has the power to change our lives. 4 Stars

Book Blast & $50 Giveaway: Faith by Heather Bixler

Faith – 4 Week Mini Bible Study

In this four week mini Bible Study you will examine your faith and what it means to have faith in God. He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 Our faith begins with what we know and believe about God. Our faith will carry us how far we are willing to let it take us. Faith is a choice and we need to begin by choosing to believe in Jesus and His power to move mountains, heal the sick, and save us from all our sins through His sacrifice on the cross. When we believe in God we then learn to walk in faith and trust God. But first we must believe, and it’s up to us, we can either choose to believe in Him or not. But faith will mean nothing until we believe with all our heart that God is who He says He is.

Book Blast: Snow by Kathryn Hewitt

Book Description:

Snow is a fiction novel, based on true events, about the struggles of a teenage girl and the consequences of a devastating mistake. Whether readers are young adults, exploring their sexuality for the first time, or an older adult, struggling to understand their teenage daughter, everyone will have a character in which to relate.

Young adults will be gripped by the reality and bluntness of it’s characters. Parents will appreciate the censorship of otherwise “uncomfortable” topics. With sexuality among young adults beginning at an early age, “family values” are now being pushed back into the forefront of parental teaching.Snow influences people with Christian values, such as sexual abstinence, pro-life advocacy, and prayer, without pushing God as the subject of the book. Biblically based information is strategically scattered throughout the novel with dialect and personal thoughts.

The protagonist’s quest to discover the path she needs to take unearths findings of a secret life, lead by her boyfriend. With two lives at stake, readers will eagerly anticipate the outcome only to find themselves with lessons and warnings about the consequences of making detrimental mistakes. Comfort will be found in understanding that God is bigger than any situation and He catches ever tear. Miracles so often go unnoticed, yet powerfully affect those they touch. Snow will set the stage for future novels reflective of countless miracles and divine intervention.

For a moment she thought about what it would be like to have sex with Luke. This was such a perfect setting. Nothing could be more romantic than just the two of them alone on the beach under the moon. She closed her eyes and pushed aside the guilt in her heart for betraying her commitment to stay pure until marriage.
Her thoughts were interrupted with his lips pressing the top of her head. He caressed her back and arms as he kissed her forehead.
“You do love me, don’t you? I love you so much; I don’t know what I’d do if you ever left me. I don’t know how I could survive without you. Please just love me, Ruth. That’s all I ask.”
“I do love you,” she said as she lifted her face to his.
He pulled her down on the blanket he spread in the sand and held her like she’d never been held before. She burned inside. She burned with desire for him and burned with guilt for what she was willing to give him.
She’d never felt this way before, and it frightened her. Before she had a chance to stop him, they heard Robins shouting from the other side of the sand dunes.
Luke’s mother was on the phone and furious with him and the girls for being out so late. She demanded that Amy and Ruth return to their room immediately.

Ruth felt humiliated as she entered the condo, but fortunately for Amy and her, the Davis’s were in their room. The girls tip-toed their way to their bedroom. After Amy entered, Ruth paused at the door, directly across from the Davis’s room, listening to the heated argument taking place behind the closed door.
“All I’m saying is that we don’t need another incident. I mean, my God! He’s changed schools once this year already. We don’t need him changing again. He needs to at least graduate.”
“Marie, calm down. We took care of that situation. He can handle himself here. He’s a teenager. Let him live a little. He’s going to have girlfriends, you know. No matter what has happened in the past.”
“That’s real easy for you to say. You didn’t have to see that little blonde beast last week. You didn’t have to make those phone calls or control yourself when what you really wanted to do is slap those little curls right off her head.”
“It’s been taken care of Marie. I don’t know how many times I need to tell you that. He’s not going to be around her again.”
Ruth heard a glass being slammed on the dresser.
“Go to bed, you’ve drank enough tonight.”
“No. I think I need another after tonight’s escapade on the beach with his newest prize.”
Ruth stepped into the bedroom and closed the door just as Mrs. Davis made her exit. Her heart pounded inside her chest. She leaned her head against the door and tried to catch her breath.
His newest prize? She thought. She can’t possibly be talking about me! What in the world could that mean?
She stood there, her feet cemented to the floor. Ruth wanted to ask Mrs. Davis what she meant, but she was clearly drunk. Ruth took a deep breath and decided that must be the reason behind Mrs. Davis’s behavior. She was talking in circles because she had drunk too much that night.
Still unsatisfied with the explanation she invented, Ruth climbed into bed with Amy, said goodnight, and attempted to sleep. She had a restless night with visions of waves washing her away from shore and drowning her in a sea of darkness.

Husband 101 by A’ndrea Wilson

Book Description:

How many women does it take to ruin a marriage? Eric Hayes is a man with too many women in his life. As a bachelor, he loved all of the attention, but now being a married man, he quickly realizes that he cannot please more than one woman at a time. Succumbing to the pressure, Eric takes a course at his wife’s church to become better equipped for the bittersweet realities of marriage: Husband 101. The course ends up being more than he bargained for and his role and actions as a man are put to the test, one that he struggles to pass. Unable to keep everyone satisfied, Eric’s picture-perfect life begins to crumble even before he can make it to his first anniversary. Will he heed to good advice and put into practice the lessons that can salvage his family, or will pride and self-reliance guarantee his fall?

My Review:

To say I was excited to read Husband 101 by A’ndrea Wilson would be an understatement. Since reading Wife 101 (which was released in November 2011), I have been telling everyone I know about Wilson’s work. Husband 101 continues the story of Amber and Eric who are now married and expecting their first child.

Eric thought he knew all there was to being a good husband but when Amber urges him to attend the Husband 101 at her church, he realizes that he was deeply mistaken. Eric’s ambition to be a success on his own causes him to go down a path that blurs the line between bending the truth and telling a lie. Throughout the thirteen week Husband 101 course, Eric reevaluates, reexamines, and reassess his views on marriage and his role and responsibility as a husband.

Husband 101 clearly looks at the topic of men and marriage just as Wife 101 explored women and their role in marriage. Both books are work of fiction, but each chapter teaches a lesson that ministers to your soul and gives you a greater understanding of the words written in the Bible. Like its predecessor (Wife 101), Husband 101 is one of my favorite reads in the last twelve months. Couples 101 cannot be released soon enough!

My Rating:

5 star rating

A Christmas Surprise by Janelle Taylor

Title: Doesn’t Quite Hit the Mark

An unexpected miracle or a risky dream? She never expected to get pregnant so soon after a health scare, and her work as a nurse makes her all too aware of the dangers. Will sharing her secret with her adoring husband create a holiday disaster— or a Christmas surprise? Betsy Reed and her husband, Tommy, have a marriage that other people envy—romantic, passionate, and filled with happiness. The news Betsy brings home from her doctor right before Christmas could destroy all that. Against all odds, just a few months after surgery to remove cysts in her uterus, she’s pregnant. She’s familiar with the dangers of pregnancy—her beloved sister-in-law died of complications. As Betsy and Tommy head for a Christmas in the Blue Ridge mountains, he begins to realize she’s hiding something from him. Although their nights are filled with desire, her holiday joy seems forced. He fears the worst. New York Times bestselling romance author Janelle Taylor puts her magic to work in this Christmas story about love, courage, faith, and trust.

My Review:

A Christmas Surprise by Janelle Taylor is the story of a married couple, Betsy and Tommy, and they are keeping secrets from one another. Betsy and Tommy are spending their first Christmas away from their respective families and are nervous and scared to face the elephant in the room. A Christmas Surprise has elements of romance because the love between the couple is apparent but after reading this book I was not really in the Christmas spirit. The premise of this book is a solid one but it is my opinion that the author should have made it into a full length book because it seemed rushed and not fully developed.

Sex, Lies, and Child Support: The Unholy Trinity by E. Lemont Goode, Jr.

Book Description from Amazon:

In the often volatile world of relationships, three Atlanta individuals discover that crossing the thin line that separates love from hate can lead to explosive consequences.

Mikaela Carter has a well-earned reputation as a woman to be feared in Atlanta’s legal circles. A hot-shot attorney by day, the beautiful Miss Carter is nonetheless a sexually frustrated single woman by night. Just as all seems lost her love life receives an unexpected jolt. A deadly incident brings that to an abrupt end, though, leaving her as the central figure in that tragedy.

To outside observers, Leah Sanchez has the perfect life. But looks can be deceiving as she finds herself in a rocky marriage on the brink of divorce. Facing a nasty custody battle that threatens the most important thing in her world, her daughter, she is unaware that a guarded family secret poses an even greater threat.

Hoop star Jordan Michaels’ life would be near perfect if not for a severe case of baby mama drama. As he closes in on a new contract, he fears that his child’s mother will seek a pay increase of her own…literally at his expense. He decides on a plan of action, one that ultimately threatens to produce a lose-lose when a person from their past unexpectedly enters the picture.

When their three lives intersect, all hell breaks loose, and they discover that when it comes to sex, lies, and child support, even the divine will turn devilish when lured by the root of all evil!

My Review:

I will admit that the title Sex, Lies, and Child Support: The Unholy Trinity did not have me in a rush to read this piece of work by E. Lemont Goode, Jr. But, I am so glad that I looked past the title and started to read it. Once I started, I was completely mesmerized. It was as if I was receiving a behind the scenes look into the stories that are told on all of the gossip websites and television shows.

If you mix professional athletes, with women looking for an easy paycheck, and broken hearts, then you have a recipe for drama and disaster.  Sex, Lies, and Child Support centers around Jordan who is a star NBA player who will go to great lengths to protect his family man image. The secrets, lies, plotting, and scheming done by the cast of characters in Sex, Lies, and Child Support: The Unholy Trinity will keep you entertained page after page. E. Lemont Goode, Jr. is truly a talented writer and I look forward to seeing what else he has in store for us!

Can I Be Frank! by Rickey Teems II

Rickey Teems II tackles the often ignored and sensitive subject of internet porn addiction and turns it into an entertaining read in Can I Be Frank! We meet Frank(lin) while he is watching porn on his computer at work in his cubicle, what an introduction and who does that? Does Frank not know browsing history is traced by employers or is his addiction that deep that he merely does not care? Frank not only loses his job; his wife also says she is leaving him.

Franks finds solace in singing karaoke all over the city but he knows that something must change in his life. My favorite part of the book is when Frank’s cousin suggests he starts dating. Teems’ descriptions of these dates had me laughing out loud because Frank has absolutely no concept of how to interact with women nor how to censor himself.

Even though Frank is going on these dates and making ends meet by singing, his addiction to porn is still there. Well, that is until he finds a new sense of spirituality and then Teems takes us on another journey to see if Frank will choose his addiction or his faith. As with all of his novels, Rickey Teems II explores social issues that make you think, make you feel and most of all, will keep you engaged. Can I Be Frank! is one novella you should definitely read!

Meet M. Ann Ricks: Author of The Blood Done Signed My Name

1. When did you fall in love with books?

I have always had a love for books. I loved romance novels and mysteries! I think I was born that way! J I love the way words transport you from the confines of your bedroom or living room to a place that is seen in only in your mind’s eye.

2. When did you realize you wanted to write?

I have always enjoyed and had an interest in the art of writing. It was a “hidden love” for many years. Not until the pregnancy of my eldest son did I feel a need to unearth my hidden love and write. I began to simply write about the way I felt about the child growing inside of me and the love that I felt for my husband. But thank God, only, when I resolved to reconnect with the Master and sought to draw nigh to Him, did the desire to write become stronger and strangely, to my surprise, an urgent need. My yearning to please Him with the stories that I created increased. I realized that this could be my way of bringing souls into the Kingdom of God. Writing is a way to reach people and impact the reader while leaving a lasting impression. Inserting the word of God in the stories that I write can in many cases transport you into the presence of God and that’s what my goal when I write!

3. Tell us about yourself.

I am M. Ann Ricks, a woman, redeemed and set free by the life-changing blood of Jesus Christ. I’m a wife, mother, author and “Godspirational” speaker living in Bear, Delaware endeavoring to live for Christ ON PURPOSE as I provide Christian literature that will not only entertain but encourage, enlighten and prayerfully restore!

4. Who are your favorite authors?

Some of my favorite authors, (but not all), are J. California Cooper, Michele Andrea Bowen, Frank Perreti and Stephen L. Carter.

5. What are your favorite books?

My all-time favorite book is The Wake of the Wind but I also love Church Folk, Piercing the Darkness and Palace New England White.

6. What would you like for readers to get out of The Blood Done Signed My Name?

The message that I would love for all to receive from THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME is that regardless of who you are, what your family lineage looks like, whatever you’ve done, whatever has been done to you, the blood of Jesus can make you a new creature because of its power. God loves us so much and because He loves us, He sacrificed His only son Jesus. Jesus became the sacrifice for us and all that we have done and are going to do. We have been absolved and even justified. We can walk in freedom and liberty because of what Jesus did. A new life is available for those who believe!

7. What makes you unique as an author and what sets your book apart from other books in the same genre?

What separates me from other authors in this genre is that I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ! I recognize that it is the POWER of God unto Salvation to all who believe. I am not afraid to say what God says and stand on it. So many authors steer clear of subjects that may cause rumblings rather than standing on the word of God, not realizing that the good news and the “gospel” is POWER! Many are writing about generational curses, the importance of forgiveness and the wonderful love of Jesus but no author has fictionally penned a novel that clearly identifies what Jesus did when he died for us. This novel makes the significance of His blood truly comprehensible to even the lay person. THE BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME is the first of its kind because it not only shares a story but it provides the liberating truth scripturally. This novel communicates and confirms that no longer does one need to label themselves as a “recovering” alcoholic, drug addict or even an inevitable beneficiary of the many generational tendencies and sicknesses that may be passed on from one generation to another. The message of Christ is to share the gospel with the oppressed; use His word to heal the brokenhearted, tell those that are bound that they are free in Jesus, open the eyes of those who can’t or those who are unable to see who Jesus is without apology.

8. What is your writing process?

I haven’t a process or a set routine. I do however set aside time to sit and hear from God. After all, it is His book. I am simply the vessel He is using to share! I sit, listen and allow Him to download His message using the gift of writing that He has given me.

9. Are you currently working on anything new? If so, please give a brief synopsis and when should we expect it?

I am currently working on my 4th novel, The SHIFT! It will center itself on the power of praise, prayer and the awesome life- altering presence of God! I hope to have it completed by Autumn of 2013.

10. How can readers connect with you?

Please feel free to contact me via email: Additionally, should interested parties wish to contact me for literary dialogues, speaking engagements or interviews, they may contact me via my e-mail provided. They may also reach out to Ms. Shani Henderson @ May House Press and Publications @ or 903.617.7308.
